Transition Unit 001

A4AC ARCHITECTS is an innovative pod builders and designers, who recently designed and built a small housing unit for informal settlements in South-Africa. The unit is designed to suit its context, but to be an improved contemporary version.

The existing shack was replaced by the new unit. The elements were prefabricated and transported to site.

The unit was flat packed and transported from the AFAC workshop to the site in the Kameeldrift informal settlement (Pretoria)

Erection

The unit was erected on site by AFAC and community members from Youth-Zones

Door/Shade

Door/Shade

The door of the unit acts as an opening and a shade roof.

Window detailing

Window detailing

The window has a 3 layer section for a maximum insulation level.

Double skin facade

Double skin facade

The unit has a double skin facade for ultimate thermal performance during summer and winter.
