1. What is A4AC's experience in healthcare architecture?
We have specialized experience in designing modern, efficient healthcare facilities. Our work includes conceptual designs for new-build day hospitals, such as the Cormed day hospital concept, as well as the technical planning for clinics, specialist suites, and upgrades to existing medical centers.
2. How do you design for patient well-being and staff efficiency?
Our healthcare philosophy is patient-centric and operationally smart. We focus on creating calm, healing environments by maximizing natural light, managing acoustics, and ensuring clear wayfinding. For staff, we design efficient clinical layouts, sterile circulation paths, and ergonomic workspaces to support their critical work and reduce fatigue.
3. Are you familiar with South Africa's healthcare compliance and regulations?
Yes, this is a core part of our expertise. Our team is fully versed in the complex requirements of the Department of Health (DOH) and all relevant South African National Standards (SANS), particularly SANS 10400 and regulations for medical facilities. We manage the compliance process to ensure your facility is approved, safe, and built to the highest standards.
4. Can your firm design highly specialized medical areas?
Absolutely. We have the technical knowledge to design specialized environments that require precise control. This includes operating theatres, procedure rooms, radiology suites (for X-ray, CT, MRI), and sterile laboratories, all of which demand specific planning for air quality, materials, and advanced services.
5. Do you only work on new hospitals, or can you renovate existing ones?
We handle both. We can design a state-of-the-art facility from the ground up, or help you modernize an existing one. We are skilled at developing phased renovation plans, which is critical for live medical environments as it allows you to continue operations with minimal disruption.
