We recently upgraded the surgery recovery area for the Sandton SPCA. After surgery, animals are temporarily placed in this area to recover, and then moved to more permanent holding pens. The approach to the design was to create a space that reflects cleanliness, not only aesthetically, but functionally as well. Smooth epoxy was chosen as the floor finish which is laid at a slope toward two floor drains. New recovery cages were also designed and manufactured by AFAC to add to the new look. The cages are movable and the internal floors of each individual cages is slightly sloped to the rear and connected to a gutter in order to drain the inside of the cages. a waiting area and new office space was also incorporated into the revamped space.
