Set against the vibrant backdrop of West Africa’s economic capital, this project represents a bold step forward for contemporary design in the region. As Ivory Coast architects and designers look to the future, this building serves as a beacon of modern urban living, merging high-density efficiency with a distinct sculptural identity.

 

Architectural Concept: The Canopy of Light

 

The defining feature of the structure is its dramatic, cantilevered roofline. Pierced with large geometric oculi (circular openings), the roof does more than cap the building—it acts as a functional sculpture. These openings allow controlled shafts of sunlight to dance across the upper terraces, creating a dynamic play of light and shadow that changes throughout the day. This design move pays homage to the local climate, providing essential shading for the penthouse levels while maintaining an open, airy connection to the sky.

 

Facade & Materiality

 

The façade is a rhythmic interplay of privacy and openness. We utilized a sophisticated palette of materials to ground the building in its context:

• Textured Concrete & Steel: The structural skeleton is celebrated rather than hidden, offering a raw, industrial edge that contrasts with the warmth of the interior lighting.

• Copper-Toned Cladding: Vertical accents in warm metallic tones break up the building's mass, drawing the eye upward and referencing the rich mineral wealth of the Ivorian soil.

• Deep Balconies: Deeply recessed balconies are critical for tropical living, acting as "cool pockets" that protect the glass from direct solar gain while offering residents private outdoor sanctuaries above the bustling city streets.

 

Urban Integration

 

At street level, the building engages directly with the urban fabric of Abidjan. The double-height retail podium is designed to activate the pedestrian experience, featuring floor-to-ceiling glass that blurs the boundary between the public street and the private interior. This mixed-use approach ensures the building remains a lively hub of activity day and night.
